Manitoba Conservation has charged a Winnipeg man under the Wildlife Act after he allegedly shot geese with a firearm more than once at St. Vital Park this summer.
Conservation officers began an investigation after they received reports of a man had been seen shooting geese at the park in early May. Officers were told he was there again shooting geese May 12 and met the suspect at his home and seized a .22-calibre rifle and two Canada goose carcasses. The 23-year-old man was charged under the Wildlife Act, and also faces two counts of loading and handling a firearm in a prohibited area. He was issued a notice to appear in court.
It’s not the only strange incident Manitoba Conservation has had to intervene in this summer, a news release Friday said.

Manitoba Conservation has charged a Winnipeg man under the Wildlife Act after he allegedly shot geese with a firearm more than once at St. Vital Park this summer.
Two men from Illinois angling in an area that prohibits fishing along the Red River in Lockport were approached by a Selkirk conservation officer on July 21. When the men spotted the officer, one tried to break his fishing line.
When the officer told the man to stop, he bit his line and threw it in the river. That netted him an additional $2,542 fine for obstructing a peace officer, on top of the $486 both men were fined for fishing in a restricted area marked by posted signs.
Fines for using prohibited bait or hooks range from $50 to $200.
