Red River College Polytechnic has renewed its top leader’s contract until 2028.
Fred Meier will continue in his position as president of the post-secondary institution following a unanimous endorsement from the board of governors, RRC Polytech announced Friday.
Meier joined RRC Polytech in the summer of 2020, shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic began and many of its hands-on training programs were forced to adapt to remote delivery.
The seasoned manager was previously clerk of the executive council and cabinet secretary for the Manitoba government.
“Meier has surpassed the board’s expectations in all he has accomplished since joining RRC Polytech,” chairman Loren Cisyk said in a news release.
“Extending his contract today ensures we will continue to build for the future with his strong, visionary leadership in place.”
Under Meier’s leadership, the school weathered the learning and teaching disruptions associated with COVID-19 protocols, rebranded itself from a college to a polytechnic and introduced numerous micro-credential courses.
He also oversaw the release of RRC Polytech’s 2022-26 strategic plan, In Front of What’s Ahead. The roadmap renews the institution’s commitment to Indigenizing its practices and touts the importance of both building greater flexibility into its operations and tightening ties with new and emerging industries.
Meier said he was humbled and honoured for the opportunity to continue working at the helm of a polytechnic — the largest of its kind in Manitoba, with upwards of 22,000 students annually — that is “a partnership-driven enterprise at every single level.”
