A Crown prosecutor will announce a decision Wednesday regarding charges in connection with a crash that killed 17 seniors last year, and police will release new details of their investigation.
Members of the RCMP and a Crown attorney, Chris Vanderhooft, will be speaking at the news conference at Manitoba RCMP headquarters in Winnipeg. It is scheduled for 10 a.m.
“The Crown attorney will speak to the decision regarding charges for the collision near Carberry. The RCMP will provide further investigational details that were not able to be shared previously,” a news advisory sent Tuesday afternoon stated.

It’s not known whether charges have been laid, will be laid at a later date or will never be laid.
The deadliest crash in Manitoba history happened at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 5, just north of Carberry, on June 15, 2023. RCMP previously said a minibus was headed south when it crossed into the path of an eastbound semi-trailer with the right of way.
The minibus was full of Dauphin-area seniors headed to a casino a few kilometres south of town. Fifteen seniors died that day, and two later died in hospital. Eight people survived the crash.
Earlier this month, RCMP said the driver of the minibus had not recovered from his injuries and might never be capable of providing a statement to investigators.
