The Winnipeg Sea Bears will head into the post-season with a below .500 record.

Winnipeg’s pro hoops team closed out the Canadian Elite Basketball League regular season with a 89-86 road loss to the Edmonton Stingers Monday night.

The Sea Bears erased a 21-point deficit to make things close but Edmonton forward Nick Hornsby ended the contest with a tip-in to hit the target score.

Neither West Division side had anything to play for as the Sea Bears, now 9-11, were already locked in as the No. 4 seed and Edmonton (13-7) were cemented in as the No. 2 spot behind the first-place Vancouver Bandits (14-6).

The Sea Bears were led in scoring by point guard Justin Wright-Foreman who had 40 points on 15-of-27 shooting and seven turnovers. The Stingers had a balanced attack featuring three players scoring 17 or more points. Winnipeg had 25 turnovers compared to Edmonton’s 11.

The Sea Bears play the Calgary Surge (11-9) inside the Winsport Event Centre in Calgary on Friday at 8:30 p.m. in a West Division play-in game. The winner advances to play Edmonton in the West semifinal.

Winnipeg is 1-9 in away games this year.
