Police say a suspicious death in the Rural Municipality of Rockwood last fall has been confirmed as a homicide.
Manitoba RCMP said Monday that the victim was Dimitar Rachev, 75. An obituary said his full name was Dimitar Dimitrov Rachev and that he went by Dimitri.
Human remains were found on an RM of Rockwood property on Nov. 21. Officers from the Stonewall detachment were sent to the property, located off a service road near the intersections of highways 7 and 67, at about 8:45 a.m. that morning, RCMP spokesman Sgt. Paul Manaigre said last year.

An RCMP vehicle remained parked outside a home in the Rural Municipality of Rockwood on Nov. 22. Remains of Dimitar Rachev were found there Nov. 21.
RCMP major crime services, with help from a forensic anthropology team, made a secondary ground search at the location on May 15.
Police asked for the public’s help in finding a man they believe might “have information about the event.” They released two images Monday taken from security video of the man, showing him at a convenience store. The video appears to have been recorded on Nov. 14, 2024.
Investigators are also seeking to speak with anyone who had contact with Rachev any time after Nov. 1.
A friend of the person living at the property where the remains were found went to visit Rachev on the night of Nov. 20. That person returned the next morning and located the partial remains, Manaigre said last fall.
Manaigre said Monday that Rachev lived alone at the property.

RCMP released two images of a man they believe might “have information about” a homicide last fall.
Investigators deemed the death suspicious at the time because officers found damage to the property.
RCMP asked anyone with information about the case to contact the Stonewall detachment at 204-467-5591, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online.
