RM OF ROCKWOOD — Police are investigating after human remains were discovered outside a home in the Rural Municipality of Rockwood.
Officers from the Stonewall detachment were sent to the property, located off a service road near the intersections of highways 7 and 67, at about 8:45 a.m. Thursday, RCMP Sgt. Paul Manaigre said by phone Friday.
A friend of the person living at the property went to visit them the night before, but couldn’t find them. That person returned the following morning and located the partial remains, Manaigre said.

An RCMP vehicle remained parked outside a home in the Rural Municipality of Rockwood on Friday morning.
“The person was found outside and animals got to them. So there hasn’t been a whole lot for us to examine,” he said. “Our search team is going to be going out there to do a further search of the property.”
Friday morning, a single RCMP vehicle remained parked outside the home, which was cordoned off with police tape.
Manaigre said the death is believed to have occurred within the last month. Investigators have deemed it as suspicious because officers found damage to the property.
The person’s identity and cause of death remains under investigation as police await autopsy results, he said.
The incident is the second in which human remains were found in a rural area in the Interlake in less than six months. The remains of Xavia Skye Lynn Butler, who was 1 or 2 when she died, were found in a barn next to Highway 6, southwest of Gypsumville in the Rural Municipality of Grahamdale, on June 3.
Investigators announced Nov. 1 that they had identified the girl’s remains. No one has been charged in connection with her death, which is being investigated as a homicide. She had not been reported missing.
