One person has died and two others were injured after a trio of motorcycle collisions on Winnipeg streets in just over 24 hours.

The latest crash happened Thursday around 9:40 p.m., when a car and motorcycle collided on Osborne Street near Don Avenue. One person was taken to hospital in unstable condition, and later upgraded to stable, a Winnipeg Police Service spokesperson said Friday.

Around two hours earlier, a man in his 20s was airlifted to hospital after losing control of his motorcycle in a single-vehicle crash near the westbound Perimeter Highway and Pembina Highway intersection.

A third, fatal motorcycle crash happened Wednesday near the 1300 block of Pembina Highway around 7 p.m.

The man, who suffered serious injuries, remains in hospital in critical condition, police said.

Police did not include details about what led to the crash, but noted there were no passengers on the motorcycle.

A third, fatal crash happened near the 1300 block of Pembina Highway around 7 p.m., shuttering the southbound lanes for several hours on Wednesday.

Police said a 29-year-old man was riding his motorcycle southbound when he collided with an SUV that had exited a parking lot on the west side of the roadway.

The driver of the SUV remained on scene and met with officers. An investigation is ongoing, police said.

Ivan Milne, a director of the Coalition of Manitoba Motorcycle Groups, said he doesn’t know enough about any of the collisions to comment on them.

But Milne said the group gives all motorists the same safety message.

“People have to look out for bikes and riders have to look out for themselves,” he said.

Milne said to reduce the chance of being in a collision, motorcycle riders must make themselves highly visible and be extra extra cautious around intersections.

“A rider always needs to be thinking, with the thought process to keep them focused, alert and on target for keeping themselves safe,” he said.

“But motorcyclists can’t do it alone, all motorists have to help.”

Police said anybody with information, or dash camera footage, that may assist in any of the investigations should call the traffic unit at 204-986-7085, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
