Two people are facing charges after a man was stabbed outside a “costume social” at the Glenwood Community Centre last month.

Police were sent to Overton Street at about 1 a.m. on Oct. 11 after the victim was stabbed during a fight outside the centre. He was taken to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

After reviewing video and interviewing witnesses, the Winnipeg Police Service determined an altercation involving a few men began inside, and organizers asked one of the groups to leave.

“A melee ensued and spilled outside into the parking lot. A female in her 40s attempted to intervene when she was punched and rendered unconscious,” the WPS said in a news release Friday.

“As the fight continued, a male in his 30s was stabbed by two men who were unknown to him.”

After obtaining a search warrant, officers raided a home on the 300 block of Selkirk Avenue on Nov. 1. They arrested five people and seized a loaded sawed-off shotgun.

Two men, ages 24 and 54, a 20-year-old woman and a 16-year-old youth are facing firearms-related charges. They were all released on undertakings.

A 29-year-old man is charged with gun offences and others related to the incident outside the social. He has been charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of a weapon, three firearms offences and five counts of failing to comply with conditions of a release order. He was detained in custody.

Police arrested a sixth person, a 28-year-old man, on Nov. 29. He is facing charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon in connection with the stabbing. He was released on an undertaking.
