Rae and Jerry’s Steak House will remain closed for the May long weekend.

The Winnipeg eatery was ordered to close temporarily after a sewer line backed up into a basement boiler room on Saturday night.

Following cleanup, the restaurant, located at 1405 Portage Ave., reopened Sunday, but was closed after a public health inspector ordered another round of cleaning in the affected room.

Adam Rodin, a managing partner, said the closure has had a ‘significant’ effect on business.

Adam Rodin, a managing partner, said they expect to be approved to reopen following an inspection by public health Friday. However, to ensure staffing and operations are fully up and running, he said the restaurant will remain closed until Tuesday.

“We can’t wait to start serving our customers and getting our staff back in the building,” he said. “We’ve missed both a lot.”

He said patrons with reservations have been notified and other restaurants have stepped up to help accommodate the dining parties.

Rodin said the closure has had a “significant” effect on business, but wouldn’t elaborate.
