A strike has been averted at the Manitoba Clinic in Winnipeg after cardiology technologists and technicians reached a deal with their employer Wednesday.

Last week, five staff members at WELL Health in the clinic, said they were going to walk off the job Tuesday after rejecting the latest contract offer.

However, late Wednesday, officials with the Manitoba Association of Health Care Professionals said the employer and the union had ratified an agreement. Wages had been the main sticking point.

The team performs up to 180 non-invasive cardiac tests a day, including EKGs and stress tests.

The union said the Manitoba Clinic was purchased by WELL Health in 2023 and this round of talks has been the first since then.

The last time a strike notice was issued by unionized cardiology staff at the Manitoba Clinic was in 1996.
