A 21-year-old is fighting for his life in an intensive care unit after crashing his car in Transcona over the weekend.

The family of Keegan Frobisher said he has undergone multiple surgeries and is currently in a coma at Health Sciences Centre after rolling his vehicle early Sunday.

“We don’t know the survival rate or anything like that, but if he does pull through all of this, he’ll need lifelong support and he’ll have severe deficits,” said his sister Kayla Frobisher.

Keegan was driving to his girlfriend’s house from a birthday party two minutes away just before 2 a.m. Sunday, she said.

The Winnipeg Police Service was alerted about the crash, near the intersection of Redonda Street and Victoria Avenue East. Keegan was airlifted by STARS air ambulance to HSC.

A damaged vehicle could be seen on its side in a boulevard at the scene Sunday morning. The vehicle was surrounded by broken glass and car parts.

Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Const. Claude Chancy had no new information on the investigation into the crash Tuesday.

Kayla said her little brother is a loud, energetic spirit who lights up the room. “He was always nice to everybody, no matter what they do,” she said.

People who attended the party Saturday told Kayla her brother was in good spirits at the event. His girlfriend waited up for him, and when she tracked his phone’s location and saw it wasn’t moving, she went to the scene and found him being loaded into the air ambulance.

A Gofundme to support the victim’s family while he’s in the hospital had raised more than $22,000 as of Tuesday afternoon.
