Police probe crash at Mountain Avenue and Salter Street

Paramedics worked carefully to remove people from a damaged car after police responded to a two-vehicle collision in the North End Tuesday.

The Winnipeg Police Service confirmed officers were called to the collision at Salter Street and Mountain Avenue around noon, but provided no further information.

“The driver, when I looked, was in her passenger side. Her seatbelt had ripped off of her,” said Carrie Ruldolph, who heard the crash from her nearby home.

“This corner is really dangerous,” she said. “I feel so sorry for whoever is in that vehicle.”

Police had the intersection taped off at around 1 p.m.

Ruldoph said the crash involved a sedan and SUV. Rudolph said three people were taken away by ambulance.

“There was a woman police officer there. I went up to her and I said: ‘Do you need help? I can assist you,’” she said. “She said: ‘there’s going to be a lot more cops on scene’ and she’s just like: ‘I got it from here.’”

Ruldolph estimated there’s about one collision every month.

Sandra Besyk, who has lived near the intersection for six years, said collisions happen “at least monthly, maybe even a little more.”

“I’m worried about the people that were in the accident,” she said. “That looks pretty bad.”

The police service had no update on the collision Tuesday evening.
