WINNIPEG — In addition to a lake, Jonathan Toews now has a community centre in South St. Vital named after him.

At an afternoon ceremony at the former Dakota Community Centre today, Mayor Sam Katz announced the centre where Toews played hockey as a child will now be called Jonathan Toews Community Centre.

The ceremony followed a parade through the neighbourhood viewed by thousands of cheering fans at which Toews carried the Stanley Cup he won this year as the captain of the victorious Chicago Blackhawks, who had not won a Stanley Cup since 1961.
