WINNIPEG – McNally Robinson Booksellers has closed the book on plans to open an outlet in Winnipeg’s new international airport terminal.
Winnipeg Airports Authority spokeswoman Christine Alongi said the company, which went into bankruptcy protection this week, notified the firm handling the master concession contract for retail operations — Paradies Shops — two weeks ago that it was pulling out.
“(Paradies) is now looking for an alternative to make sure we meet the needs of the travelling public,” Alongi said today.
McNally Robinson was one of five Winnipeg-based operators announced last July they would be part of the new airport terminal.
Besides the book store, the other local outlets announced were Salisbury House, Stella’s Cafe and Bakery, Gondola Pizza, and Toad Hall Toys.
McNally Robinson filed for bankruptcy protection and announced the immediate closure of its Toronto store and the closure on Sunday of its Polo Park outlet.
The company owes at least $3.2 million to unsecured creditors and less than $10 million to secured creditors.
