What’s next for Williams
Will Williams say anything during this week’s hearings?
That remains unclear. Victim impact statements are scheduled to be heard Wednesday and when those are done, it is possible Williams will make a statement.
What kind of a sentence does Williams face?
Life without eligibility of parole for 25 years. However, those serving life sentences are eligible for day parole three years prior to full parole eligibility.
Will he be held in maximum security?
It is expected he will be sent to a maximum-security prison initially. Security classifications are then reviewed every one or two years.
Will he be required to get counselling or treatment?
Following sentencing, he will go through an intake-assessment process. Officials will review police reports, the judge’s comments and victim-impact statements to get insight into the nature of his offences and behaviour. A correctional plan will then be developed to see which programs might best address the problems that led to his incarceration.
Is Williams still being investigated for other possible crimes?
The Ontario Provincial Police is continuing to review other unresolved cases.
What will become of Williams’ military status?
Canadian Forces officials have said that Williams will lose his rank of colonel and will be stripped of his service decorations, but that he will be able to receive his pension.
