TORONTO – Toronto police say they are looking for multiple suspects after a man was killed in the city’s third fatal shooting in a week.
Police say the shooting is believed to be targeted and it happened Monday around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Cedar Drive and Eglinton Avenue in the city’s east end.
Police say the victim, identified as 33-year-old Jordan Thompson of Toronto, was found injured on the sidewalk and rushed to hospital where he later died.
Investigators say there were likely several people in a plaza in the area where the shooting took place and they are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
In a statement on social media, Mayor Olivia Chow says gun violence has a “devastating impact,” and highlighted some of the city’s recent efforts to boost hiring of first responders and 911 call takers.
Police say a 15-year-old boy and a 31-year-old man were also killed in two separate shootings over the past week.
The man died in hospital and five others were injured last Tuesday when police say three suspects opened fire on a group of people near Ranee Avenue and Varna Drive.
Then, on Saturday night, the teen was fatally shot near Emmett Avenue and Jane Street.
