CALGARY – A former Alberta teacher accused of sexually assaulting eight students is facing numerous charges.
RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney says the alleged assaults happened when the man was a teacher at a school in a town north of Calgary.
Slaney says numerous people were interviewed and officers identified eight complainants.
Rodney Reisner, a 47-year-old Airdrie resident, has been charged with eight counts of sexual assault and eight counts of sexual exploitation.
Rocky View Schools says in a statement that Reisner, employed with the division since 2009, taught at the school from 2014 until late 2023.
RCMP say Reisner remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
“We take these charges very seriously,” Rocky View Schools Supt. Greg Luterbac said Wednesday in a statement.
“We also recognize the emotional impact this situation may have on our dedicated employees, who work tirelessly to enrich the lives of our students.
“We cannot provide further information as the matter is subject to an ongoing criminal investigation.”
