KELOWNA – Airports in Kelowna and Victoria have confirmed their public information systems were hacked on Tuesday, after social media posts depicted pro-Hamas messages on flight information screens and chants being played on public-announcement systems.

Kelowna International Airport says some flights were delayed after the hack on Tuesday, when the posts showed terminal screens displaying a message saying “Israel lost the war, Hamas won,” and calling U.S. President Donald Trump a pig.

Other videos depict slogans being played over the Kelowna airport’s public announcement system, and also at the Harrisburg International Airport in Pennsylvania.

Victoria International Airport says in a statement issued on Tuesday that an “unauthorized audio message” was “related to a cloud-based software issue” but staff shut the broadcast down quickly.

Kelowna International Airport says on its website that staff successfully removed the unauthorized messaging by a “third party.”

Kelowna’s update, posted at 10 p.m. Tuesday, says the airport was working to restore both of its hacked systems, and the incident resulted in some delayed flights.

The airport’s departure information showed three delayed flights on Wednesday morning, without saying whether they were related to the hack.

A group calling itself “Siberislam” claimed responsibility for the hacks in the onscreen messages, while social media accounts under that name shared videos of the incidents.
