HALIFAX – Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team says a woman is dead after a Halifax RCMP officer shot her in Eastern Passage.

The watchdog says the Mounties were responding to a report of a physical assault at a home in the community about 15 kilometres southeast of downtown Halifax Tuesday afternoon.

The watchdog says the woman was holding a knife and did not comply with officer’s commands to drop it.

The watchdog also says police first discharged a conducted energy weapon, which is often known as a Taser, and the woman allegedly continued to approach with the knife.

At that point, the watchdog says an officer discharged their firearm at the woman, who was pronounced dead soon after.

The watchdog is investigating the shooting.
