Hey there, time traveller!

There’s rarely a dull moment when it comes to the Winnipeg Jets.

And now you have another way to keep tabs on what’s happening with the local hockey club. Say hello to The Morning Skate, a video blog from Free Press sports columnist and Jets beat writer Mike McIntyre.

We dropped the puck on the new feature today with a dispatch from Bell MTS Iceplex, where the Jets officially kicked off the 2019-2020 season with the start of training camp. And what a day it was.

From Patrik Laine and Kyle Connor both missing from the roster due to prolonged contract disputes, to the surprise announcement of veteran defenceman Dustin Byfuglien being granted an indefinite personal leave of absence, there seemed to be more focus on who wasn’t on the ice than who was.

Mike will be filing regular installments while covering the Jets both here at home and on the road. Expect to go beyond the headlines for additional stories, anecdotes and insight surrounding the Jets and the NHL. He’ll also be joined by some special guests along the way.

It’s already shaping up to be a most interesting season, and we’re excited to have you join us on the journey.
