Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 27/05/2017 (3048 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
Winnipeggers looking to live downtown now have the opportunity to own the sky.
Or, at least their own little piece of it.
That opportunity exists in the form of SkyCity Condominiums, a 40-storey-plus, cutting-edge condo project — or, vertical village, if you will — that will be home to 388 suites ranging in size from 529 sq. ft. to 1,624 sq. ft..

“It will be located on a 30,000-square-foot surface parking lot at the junction of Garry Street, Graham Avenue and Smith Street,” says Royal LePage Dynamic Real Estate’s Matthew Nicolas, sales representative for the project. “It’s something that Winnipeg has never seen before — residents will feel like they’re living in a high-end resort.”
Once complete, the tower — which will be constructed of cement and steel to give it exceptional structural integrity and sound dampening qualities — will be approximately 45 storeys high, containing a collection of suites ranging in price from $216,000 (smallest units) to $700,000 (largest, most luxurious suites).
“Right now, we’ve sold over 50 per cent of the suites,” he says. “We’ve sold all the smallest one-bedroom units (529 sq. ft.), so the smallest unit now available is the 558-sq.-ft. Kennedy model. There’s a great cross-section of suites left to choose from — one bedrooms, one bedroom plus den, two bedrooms and two bedrooms plus den.”
Nicolas adds while SkyCity is aiming to raise the bar for luxury living in downtown Winnipeg, suites have been designed to be as functional as they are luxurious.
“Each suite, from smallest to largest, will feature well-thought-out, open-concept layouts with nine-foot ceilings that maximize livability. The open-concept floor plans will maximize flow, huge windows will let in tons of natural light, and each suite will have its own balcony and in-suite laundry.”
As might be expected, finishes — even in standard form — will be rich and luxurious.
“Standard finishes will include wide plank laminate flooring in the great room areas, ceramic tile in bathrooms and glass tile backsplashes in both kitchens and bathrooms (i.e., full tile surrounds around soaker tubs in bathrooms). Kitchens will feature two-tone cabinets with under-cabinet lighting, quartz countertops and four stainless appliances. Islands are an option that will be made available to buyers.”
Then, there are the views that will come from having suites positioned way up in the air, says Nicolas.
“They’re going to be absolutely spectacular. If you visit our sales centre (at 279 Garry St.) or get the SkyCity app, you can see what the views are going to look like from floors 10, 15, 20 and 32, even floor 39. In a word, the views are going to be amazing.”
So, too, will the amenities slated to be part of the complex.

“SkyCity will offer over 30,000 square feet of five-star amenities. On the eighth floor, there will be a fitness zone, steam rooms, juice bar/kitchen, lockers, lounge, pet bathing, dog run and guest suites. You can also relax outside on the landscaped courtyard, which comes complete with hot tubs, firepit, cabana areas with barbecues — and, of course, amazing city views,” he says.
Amenities will then be — literally — topped off by a sky lounge.
“Exclusive to residents, the SkyLounge will offer multiple seating zones where you can read a book, or invite a group of friends to enjoy a private dinner with a panoramic view of the city and outlying areas,” Nicolas says. “It’s going to be an amazing spot.”
Finally, there’s the vibrant, convenient downtown lifestyle.
“Winnipeg’s downtown is now a thriving area,” he says. “It’s an exciting place to be, with all its restaurants, shops, entertainment and culture. You’re close to the MTS Centre, the Millennium Public Library, and a host of other amenities. There’s something to see and do all the time, and SkyCity is right in the middle of all the action.”
