Huge and handsome in Headingley

While not all new home designs are masterpieces, there are instances when a builder comes up with a magically special design.

Avanti Custom Homes’ new 2023 Fall Parade of Homes show home at 6 Ammeter Bay in Headingley’s Taylor Farm is one of those instances, says the home’s sales representative, Cheryl Thurston of Real Brokers.

“When you pull up to the home, you know you’re in for something very unique and special,” she says of the sprawling 2,377-sq.-ft. bungalow. “Its curb appeal is just captivating.”

Indeed, the home looks decidedly handsome with grey stone accents perfectly complementing a fetching country white exterior.

Espresso-trimmed windows then deftly complete the colour palette, gently announcing the fact that this is a bungalow that possesses a definite modern farmhouse vibe.

At the same time, a double-peaked addition to the roofline arouses curiosity to such an extent that you can hardly wait to step inside to see what it’s all about.

Turns out, it houses a clever design feature that endows the home with a level of wow factor that’s simply off the charts.

“The only way to put it is that the entryway is simply breathtaking,” Thurston says. “Right away, you see that this is no ordinary bungalow. There’s a soaring, double-high ceiling and grand staircase with gorgeous maple railing and trim that leads up to a very special space.”

That space is none other than a 300-sq.-ft. loft.

“Avanti’s design team thought of it all when they designed this space,” she says. “It has a wet bar, two huge windows that let in tons of natural light, a games nook, media area and even a powder room. It could be used for entertaining guests or as a hangout for the kids. With this space in place, you wouldn’t need to rush to build a recreation space for the kids downstairs.”

Wander back down the majestic staircase to the main floor, and you find yourself standing in a resplendent main living area.

As you take in the various spaces — kitchen, eating area and great room — you’re struck by its natural warmth, function, and understated wow factor.

“Its warmth comes from lovely vinyl plank flooring, wood pillars and Tyndall stone in the great room,” Thurston notes. “A wall of windows — it starts in the eating area and ends in the great room — lets in loads of natural light and highlights the natural surroundings.”

The two areas that occupy the main living area — kitchen/eating area and great room — are special in their own way, she adds.

“A huge island with white quartz countertop is surrounded by white cabinets that go right up to the ceiling. A slab quartz backsplash matches the countertops, while a maple-clad hood fan and a gold faucet and gold cabinet handles go perfectly with the gold trim on the grey pendant lights.”

Next comes the eating area.

“It’s a spacious area that’s surrounded by windows plus a patio door that leads out to a partially covered composite deck,” she says. “You get beautiful sunsets out there during the summer.”

Then, there’s the great room, which draws you in with its innate warmth.

“The Tyndall stone feature wall surrounding the linear electric fireplace just makes the space. It’s a cozy, welcoming space that’s defined beautifully by a gorgeous, 11.5-foot-high tray ceiling.”

Meanwhile the main floor also features a split floor plan, says Thurston.

“Two bedrooms and a full bathroom are set on one side of the home, while the primary bedroom is on the other along with a powder room and laundry room. Families with love that sense of separation.”

Parents will also love the primary bedroom’s privacy, and assortment of posh appointments.

“Just look at the bedroom, it has a tray ceiling and another wall of windows,” she says. “The en suite, which can be closed off by a barn-style door, offers a free-standing soaker tub, walk-in shower with quartz slab surround, warm vinyl tile floor and white vanity with dual sinks. There’s also a huge walk-in closet with tons of built-in storage.”

Thurston says the spacious bungalow is stunning from stem to stern.

“Its design is on point throughout. The loft was a stroke of genius, and the main living area perfectly combines wow factor with function. Everyone who’s been through has said it’s their favourite show home in Taylor Farm.”
