The allegations

The following timeline is based on allegations made by Alex Chapman in an affidavit filed Wednesday.

Oct. 8, 2002 — Chapman hires Jack King to represent him in a divorce case.

April 14, 2003 — The divorce trial begins.

April 15 — King invites Chapman for lunch at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. He asks Chapman about his computer skills and suggests he checks out a specific pornographic website and look under the heading of "White Princesses." They return to court, where a tentative settlement is reached in the divorce proceedings.

April 17 — Lunch at the Pony Corral, where Chapman says he couldn’t find the "White Princess" pictures. King promises to send him photos by email to "compare" with what he sees online. That evening, several images arrive of King’s wife, Lori Douglas, in explicit poses.

April 18 — They meet again at the Pony Corral, where King asks Chapman what he thought of the pictures. He then asks Chapman to take his wife out to various places and makes numerous sexually suggestive comments that include getting together a "group of black men," coming to their residence and "having fun with her." King says he has had similar group-sex experiences with other women in his past.

That evening, King sends more explicit pictures of Douglas, along with a link to the same website inviting black men to come with the couple to Cancun for two weeks in February.

May 16 — King sends three explicit new photos of his wife to Chapman while confirming a face-to-face meeting the next day.

May 17 — Chapman meets Douglas and King at Earls on Main. King then excuses himself, leaving Douglas and Chapman to spend the next two hours talking. That night, King sends an email to Chapman saying his wife "rather liked you."

May 22 — The three meet again at Earls, where Chapman claims Douglas begins "inappropriately touching him" while inviting him back to their home for a future meeting.

May 27 — King meets Chapman for lunch at the Pony Corral to sign some divorce-related documents. Once again, King wants to know when they can finally all get together. Later that day, an email arrives from King, confirming his wife is still interested in having Chapman come to their home.

June 2 — Chapman’s boss finds him sleeping in his office, asks what’s going on, Chapman says he confides in him about "unwanted sexual advances" from Douglas and King.

June 3 — Chapman contacts lawyer Ian Histed, to whom he forwards all of the nude photos, emails and other documents.

June 5 — King meets with Chapman at Earls to sign documents. King asks when he’s coming out to the house. Chapman tells him in a week.

June 6 — Histed contacts Thompson Dorfman Sweatman, where he shares everything Chapman has provided him about King.

July 21 — A cheque arrives for $25,000 from King. As part of the agreement, Chapman agrees to "delete all emails and photos ever sent by Jack King," not seek legal action and not speak publicly about the case. King ultimately resigns from the law firm and takes a one-year medical leave.

2005 — Lori Douglas is appointed as a justice with the Court of Queen’s Bench, family division.

July 13, 2010 — Chapman files a professional-misconduct complaint to the Manitoba Law Society about King.

July 15 — Chapman files a sexual-harassment complaint to Canadian Judicial Council counsel about Douglas.

Sept. 1 — Chapman files lawsuits against King, Douglas and their former law firm, seeking $67 million in damages. Later in the day, Douglas announces she is temporarily stepping down from active duty, although she will continue in administration.
