Our Pennies from Heaven campaign is now firing on all cylinders to help our local hungry.
All we need now is your pennies.
The final collection bins are now in place so you now have numerous places throughout the city to drop off your coins, folding money or cheques.
If you’re in the mood for shopping while donating, you can go to any of the city’s Walmart stores.
Walmart says their prices are dropping and thanks to Walmart manager Gerry Gerrits, we know our pennies will also be dropping into our bins stationed there.
Want to make a deposit of pennies?
Well, you can, at our bins located inside the city’s more than two dozen RBC branches.
I was meeting with staff at the RBC’s Portage Avenue and Fort Street branch recently with this year’s Pennies partners — Doc Walker — and while the country band is with us working for pennies in the weeks ahead, the RBC’s branches will be helping collect a lot of them.
Want to count your pennies while shopping or working downtown?
Once again, our giant penny is ready and able to take your donations at Portage Place.
The mall’s Margaret Young is looking forward to watching buckets full of pennies come in.
There’s also both the Free Press itself and our downtown news café.
Of course, the biggest beneficiaries of all your generosity are the families and individuals who need our help at this festive time of year.
Your donations help provide the thousands of hampers which will be delivered by the Christmas Cheer Board. They will also help Winnipeg Harvest provide food for the thousands of Winnipeggers and Manitobans who have to use the province’s food bank each month.

Where to donate
- There are large collection bins inside each of the city’s Walmart stores. Look for the bin with the photo of myself and Doc Walker near the front entrance (hint: I’m the one with the wings.)
- All RBC branches in the city have our collection bins.
- Our giant penny can once again be found on the second floor of Portage Place across from customer service.
- The Winnipeg Free Press News Café at 237 McDermot Ave., is a new drop-off spot this year. You can even grab a coffee or sandwich while you’re there.
- The Free Press at 1355 Mountain Ave.
- Cheques can be sent to Pennies from Heaven, c/o Winnipeg Free Press, 1355 Mountain Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R2X 3B6. Tax receipts will be issued.
