Garbage, recycling collection delayed

If something is starting to smell at your home – and you know you’ve showered after several days of holiday festivities – it may be because garbage collection has been delayed due to the winter storm Sunday and Monday.

Garbage and recycling collection are both running one to two days behind schedule in some areas, the city said in a press release.

Collection had to be suspended on Monday due to the heavy snowfall, but collection was taking place on Wednesday.

The city is advising residents who have Monday as their regular collection day whose trash and recycling hasn’t been collected by 4 p.m. Wednesday to call 311 and report a missed pick-up.

Residents with Tuesday or Wednesday as their usual collection day are advised to leave garbage carts out until 10 p.m. Wednesday. If garbage carts have not been emptied by 10 p.m., put them away to allow for street clearing, but put them back on the street again by 7 a.m. Thursday.

Residents with Thursday and Friday as the regular collection days should put carts out as usual. If garbage has not been picked up by 10:00 p.m. on the regular day, please put carts away to allow for street clearing and then place them out by 7 a.m. the following morning.

Collection delays may continue on streets and lanes that have not been cleared of snow.

The Brady Road Resource Management Facility is open and operating as normal.

Transit is back on schedule and Handi-Transit has resumed transporting all scheduled trips.

However, Transit users are advised to allow for extra travel time and to check Transit schedules prior to travelling at winnipegtransit.com.
