Canada Day always means big celebrations, fireworks and fun, but it also means many businesses and government services around Winnipeg have changed their hours for the long weekend.

Many businesses and government services change their hours over the Canada Day long weekend.

Here’s a selection:

 

SHOPPING

Polo Park: closed all day Saturday.

St. Vital Mall: closed all day Saturday.

Grant Park Mall: closed all day Saturday.

Garden City Shopping Centre: closed all day Saturday.

Kildonan Place: closed all day Saturday. 

The Forks Market is open from 7 a.m.-11 p.m.

Most grocery stores, including Safeway, Sobeys, Superstore and Walmart, are closed.

Manitoba Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For details on exceptions and rural Liquor Mart hours, visit www.LiquorMarts.ca/hours.

Beer vendors and private wine stores set their own hours for the holiday, so Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries suggests the best way to find out if the one near you will be open is to call. You can find phone numbers for the 47 beer vendors online here

 

ENTERTAINMENT

The Assiniboine Park Zoo is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Children’s Museum is closed.

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. 

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is open 10 a.m.-7 p.m., and admission is $5. The museum is also running a free video mosaic exhibit, and ERA Bistro is serving poutine, tourtière, salmon and caesars from 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

Movie theatres are open 

 

RECYCLING AND TRASH

Recycling and garbage will be collected as normally scheduled on the Canada Day long weekend for those with Monday as their collection day.

The Brady Road landfill is open between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

 

LEISURE ACTIVITIES

The Fort Rouge Leisure Centre and St. James Civic Centre will be closed July 1 and open July 3.

All other leisure centres will be closed on July 3, and regular hours of operation will resume on July 4.

Crescent Drive, Harbour View, John Blumberg, Kildonan Park and Windsor Park golf courses will be open from dawn until dusk all weekend.

All City of Winnipeg indoor swimming pools will be closed.

Weather permitting, all city outdoor pools– with the exception of Westdale and Happyland pools– will be open July 1 with varying hours by pool. More information can be found at the city’s website or through 311.

The following wading pools will be open on July 1:

Bronx Park, Central Park, Cordova Park, Dakota Park, Ducharme Park, Keenleyside Park, Machray Park, McKittrick Park, Pritchard Park, Shaughnessy Park, Sturgeon Heights CC, Vimy Ridge Memorial Park, Westdale and West Kildonan Memorial CC.

The following spray pads will be open July 1, between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m.:

Central Park, Central Corydon, Fort Rouge Park, Gateway, Jill Officer Park, Lindenwood, Lindsey Wilson Park, Machray Park, Park City West, Provencher Park, Shaughnessy Park, St. James Assiniboia Centennial Pool, St. Norbert, Sturgeon Heights, Vimy Ridge Memorial, Waverley Heights, Westdale, West Kildonan Memorial.

 

WINNIPEG TRANSIT

Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule.

A free Canada Day shuttle service linking The Forks and Osborne Village will be operating from 12 p.m. and midnight.

Extra Route 11 Portage buses will be operating between the Forks and Assiniboine Park from noon until 11 p.m. Regular transit fares apply.

Several park and ride shuttles will be operating to and from Assiniboine Park throughout the day.

Post-fireworks departures around the city are available at the following locations with regular fares:

The Forks: Main Street between York and Graham avenues.

Assiniboine Park to Downtown: eastbound Portage Avenue at Overdale Street

Assiniboine Park to St. James/Assiniboia areas: westbound Portage at Overdale.

LIBRARIES

All Winnipeg Public Library branches are closed.

CEMETERIES

Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona cemetery grounds are open to the public from 8 a.m.-9 p.m.. Cemetery offices will be closed on the holiday.

GOVERNMENT SERVICES

Civic, provincial and federal offices are closed 

The Winnipeg Parking Authority closed

The Winnipeg Animal Services Agency is closed.

There is no mail delivery on Canada Day, as it is a Saturday. Canada Post offices are closed, but post offices operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business.
