Winnipeg city council’s next budget working group will include two members of the mayor’s inner circle and two other non-executive policy committee councillors.

EPC members Jeff Browaty and Janice Lukes will join non-EPC councillors Cindy Gilroy and Russ Wyatt on the group, which will play a key role in shaping the 2023 update to the city’s multi-year budget.

Mayor Scott Gillingham says he made the appointments to ensure budget participation extends past his own inner circle.

Janice Lukes will join Scott Gillingham’s budget working group.

“These councillors all bring extensive experience to this role, and they represent a balance between EPC and non-EPC members,” Gillingham said in a press release. “It is also critical to me that all councillors are part of the budget and have the opportunity for input, so I have asked Coun. (Jeff) Browaty, as chair of finance, to lead that process.”

The 2023 balanced budget update will be released in the new year.
