No charges laid in self-defence causing death at The Forks

Police say a woman acted in self-defence and no charges will be laid after a man died at The Forks parkade in May.

A 23-year-old woman was arrested on May 3 after police were called to the parkade for a report of an assault at around 10 p.m. The injured man, 27-year-old Kyle James Craik, died of his injuries in hospital.

Investigators say the woman was confronted by Craik and in the ensuing altercation he was injured. They did not know each other.

Manitoba Justice and a Senior Crown Attorney reviewed the case and determined no charges will be laid because her response was meant to defend herself and considered “reasonable under the circumstances.”
