Many Manitobans will remember Louis Riel’s legacy on the holiday Monday that bears his name.
The Free Press will not publish a print or e-edition Monday, but readers can visit winnipegfreepress.com for the latest news over the long weekend.
Many government services will be open different hours or closed Monday. Here’s a selection:

GOVERNMENT SERVICES
City of Winnipeg offices, including the animal services agency, will be closed. Provincial offices will be closed.
Mail will be collected and delivered as usual.
RECYCLING AND TRASH
Recycling and garbage will be collected as usual.
The Brady Road landfill will be open its usual winter weekday hours Monday.
The 4R Winnipeg depot at the Brady landfill will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The other two 4R depots will be closed.
WINNIPEG TRANSIT
Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Monday.
LIBRARIES
All Winnipeg Public Library branches will be closed Monday.
LEISURE ACTIVITIES
All arenas will be closed Monday.
All leisure centres will be closed Monday, except the Pan Am Pool (open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex (2 p.m. to 6 p.m.).
City of Winnipeg swimming pools will be closed Monday, except for Pan Am (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), the Cindy Klassen site (2 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and Margaret Grant Pool (open to the public from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.).
CEMETERIES
Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona cemetery grounds will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday. The administration office at Brookside will be closed.
SHOPPING
CF Polo Park, Garden City Shopping Centre, Kildonan Place, Outlet Collection Winnipeg and St. Vital Centre will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Grant Park Shopping Centre will be open noon to 5 p.m.
The Forks Market will be open. Louis Riel Day festivities will be held inside and outside at The Forks from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Manitoba Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for the True North Square location, which will be closed Monday.
Beer vendors and private wine stores set their own hours for Monday so call ahead.
Most grocery stores will be open, but possibly with different hours.
ENTERTAINMENT
The Assiniboine Park Zoo, the Manitoba Children’s Museum, the Manitoba Museum and the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada will be open regular hours Monday.
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights will be closed Monday. The Winnipeg Art Gallery will be closed the entire long weekend for maintenance work being done on the building.
