The holiday season means time with family, festive gatherings and time off from work, and it’s also a time when city services and businesses close or reduce hours.
The Free Press does not publish a print edition on Tuesday, Christmas Day, but readers are invited to visit winnipegfreepress.com for the latest news and information.
Many businesses and government services change their hours to observe Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Here’s a selection of what will be open and closed during those three days.
SHOPPING
Malls will be closed Tuesday.
Most malls will be open Monday and Wednesday until 6 p.m. Polo Park will be open Wednesday at 8 a.m. until 9 p.m.
The Forks Market tenants will be closed Tuesday. The Forks Market building will be open for regular hours of 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Johnston Terminal will also be open at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Most grocery stores, including Safeway, Sobeys and Superstore, will close at 6 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. All stores will be closed Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Walmart Supercentre North will be open at 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. Walmart Supercentre Polo Park and South will be open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
LIQUOR MARTS
Manitoba Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg will operate on varied holiday hours. For details on exceptions and rural Liquor Mart hours, visit www.LiquorMarts.ca/hours.
On Monday, Liquor Marts in Winnipeg and Brandon will be open at 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
All Manitoba Liquor Marts will be closed Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Manitoba Liquor Marts will open at 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Beer vendors and private wine stores set their own hours for the holiday, so Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Corp. suggests the best way to find out if the one near you will be open is to call the store you wish to visit.
ENTERTAINMENT
The Assiniboine Park Zoo will be closed Tuesday. It will observe winter hours on other days.
The Manitoba Museum will be open Monday at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be closed Tuesday. On Wednesday, it will be open at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Manitoba Children’s Museum will be closed Monday and Tuesday, but will be open Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Winnipeg Art Gallery will be closed at 2 p.m. Monday, closed Tuesday, and open Wednesday at 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights will be closed Monday and Tuesday but will be open Wednesday at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Movie theatres are open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Check specific theatres for show times.
RECYCLING AND TRASH
There will be no garbage pickup Tuesday.
The collection schedule has been adjusted as follows:
Regular Tuesday collection will be done Wednesday.
Regular Wednesday collection will be done Thursday.
Regular Thursday collection will be done Friday.
Regular Friday collection will be done Saturday.
The Brady Road landfill will be closed Tuesday.
LEISURE ACTIVITIES
On Monday, many city leisure centres will close early.
Fort Rouge Leisure Centre will be closed at 4:30 p.m.
St. James Civic Centre will be closed at noon.
Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre is open regular hours.
Freight House will be closed at 12:30 p.m.
Mayfair Recreation Centre will be closed at 1 p.m.
Peguis Trails Health & Fitness Centre will be closed at noon.
Sergeant Tommy Prince Place will be closed at noon.
St. John’s Leisure Centre will be closed.
All Leisure Centres will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
SWIMMING POOLS
On Monday, all pools scheduled to be open will be closed at noon.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, all pools will be closed.
Visit the City of Winnipeg’s indoor pools website or contact 311 for locations and swimming times for a specific day.
WINNIPEG TRANSIT
Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule on Tuesday and Wednesday.

LIBRARIES
All Winnipeg Public Library branches will close at 1 p.m. Monday and will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

CEMETERIES
Cemetery offices will be open until 4:30 p.m. Monday and closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
Cemetery grounds at Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona Cemeteries will be open for visitation from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. every day throughout the holiday season, weather permitting.

GOVERNMENT SERVICES
Civic, provincial and federal offices are closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Some government offices are open until noon Monday, so check directly with the service you are looking for.
The Winnipeg Parking Authority will be open Monday at 8:30 a.m. to noon. It will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday
The Winnipeg Animal Services Agency will be open Monday at 8:30 a.m. until noon. On Monday, only for pick-up of impounded dogs or drop off of stray dogs, the agency will be open noon until 2:30 p.m. It will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
There is no mail delivery Christmas Day or Boxing Day, and Canada Post offices are closed.
