AS COVID-19 restrictions are relaxed but not removed, and amid calls to cancel the holiday in the wake of the discovery of hundreds of unmarked graves at residential schools across the country, Manitobans are set to face a Canada Day unlike any other.

COVID-19 TEST SITES

All COVID-19 testing sites in Winnipeg are open at normal times Thursday. The walk-in site at 1 Research Rd. and the drive-thrus at 125 King Edward St. and 1066 Nairn Ave., are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Testing sites at 604 St. Mary’s Rd., 2735 Pembina Hwy. and the drive-thru site at 1284 Main St. are open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The walk-in site at the Garrick Centre is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the 2055 Notre Dame Ave. site is open 5-9 p.m., and Dakota Medical Centre is open 6-10 p.m.

Vaccination booking phone lines will be open as normal Thursday.

The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre walk-up vaccination site (363 McGregor St.) is closed on Thursday.

The Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre walk-up site (215-181 Higgins Ave.) will be open 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

SHOPPING

CF Polo Park and Outlet Collection are open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Kildonan Place, Grant Park Shopping Centre and St. Vital Centre are closed.

The Forks Market is open at reduced capacity. Building capacity is limited to 25 per cent and outdoor seating is limited to 50 per cent.

Most grocery stores, including Safeway, Superstore and Walmart, are open.

Manitoba Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg operate from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For details on exceptions and rural Liquor Mart hours, visit www.LiquorMarts.ca/hours. Beer vendors and private wine stores set their own hours for the holiday, so Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corp. suggests the best way to find out if the one near you will be open is to call.

ENTERTAINMENT

The Assiniboine Park Zoo is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Manitoba Museum is closed.

The Children’s Museum is closed.

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is closed.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is closed.

Movie theatres are closed.

RECYCLING AND TRASH

Recycling and garbage will be collected as normally scheduled Thursday.

The Brady Road landfill is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

LEISURE ACTIVITIES

All city leisure centres are closed.

The Crescent Drive, Harbour View, John Blumberg, Kildonan Park and Windsor Park golf courses will be open.

City of Winnipeg outdoor swimming pools, spray pads and wading pools will be open.

WINNIPEG TRANSIT

On Thursday, buses will operate on a Sunday schedule.

LIBRARIES

All Winnipeg Public Library branches are closed.

CEMETERIES

Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona cemetery grounds are open. Cemetery offices will be closed on the holiday. For more information on city cemeteries, visit the municipal cemeteries branch online or contact 311.

GOVERNMENT SERVICES

Civic, provincial and federal offices are closed.

The Winnipeg Parking Authority is closed.

The Winnipeg Animal Services Agency is closed.

There is no mail delivery on Canada Day. Canada Post offices are closed, but post offices operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business.
