Hellebuyck heroic as Jets beat Wild

ST. PAUL — This was another edition of the Connor Hellebuyck Show.

The two-time Vezina Trophy winner made 43 saves as the Winnipeg Jets earned a 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Monday night at Xcel Energy Center.

With the win, the Jets improve to 2-1 on this season-long six-game road trip and are now 18-4 overall as they continue to sit atop the NHL standings.

Hellebuyck was under siege during the first two periods, turning aside 38 of 39 shots he faced, allowing the Jets to stabilize after a slow start.

Alex Iafallo paced the offensive attack, scoring a pair of goals, while providing a noticeable distraction on a third.

Nino Niederreiter and Adam Lowry also scored for the Jets, who face the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday.

Missing car sought after suspicious death

RCMP are searching for a car believed to have been removed from a rural property where officers are investigating a suspicious death.

Investigators asked for the public’s help in finding the car, a grey 2007 Saturn Ion sedan, with Manitoba licence plate HGL 773. RCMP released an image of the vehicle, which they think was removed from the property at some point in the last month.

RCMP, including the forensic anthropology team, searched the grounds Friday and Saturday. The property is located off a service road near the intersections of highways 7 and 67, in the Rural Municipality of Rockwood.

The death is still considered suspicious and remains under investigation, RCMP said in a news release Monday afternoon.

Police were sent to the property after partial human remains were found Thursday morning. A friend of the person living at the property went to visit them Wednesday night but couldn’t find them. That person returned Thursday morning and found the remains, an RCMP spokesman said previously. Investigators have deemed the death suspicious because officers found damage to the property, the spokesman said Friday.

Katy Perry, Beach Boys coming to Winnipeg

There was a flurry of 2025 Canada Life Centre concert announcements today.

Pop superstar Katy Perry is set to play the arena on Saturday, July 29. One of the highest-selling female artists in Capitol Records history, Perry embarks on a global Lifetimes Tour next spring.

Summer will start early for nostalgic music fans with a visit from The Beach Boys on Saturday, March 29 as part of the band’s Endless Summer Gold tour. Known for hits Wouldn’t It Be Nice and Good Vibrations, the group has been performing together since the 1960s.

Tickets for both shows go on sale Friday, Nov. 29 on Ticketmaster.

Man fatally shot by police was an adult: IIU

The male fatally shot by Winnipeg police on Sunday was an adult, the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba said Monday.

The police watchdog did not release the man’s age in a news release. The Winnipeg Police Service did not state whether the male was an adult during a news conference Sunday night or in a related news release.

The man was pronounced dead after being transported to Health Sciences Centre, the IIU said.

The IIU asked witnesses or anyone with information or video related to the shooting to call 1-844-667-6060.

Police said officers shot the man outside a bus shelter at Unicity shopping centre after he stabbed an officer in the throat late Sunday afternoon. The injured officer was taken to hospital and was in stable condition Monday, the IIU said.

Beer vendor employees threatened by shotgun-wielding man

A man was arrested for allegedly threatening employees with a shotgun after being told to leave a beer vendor.

Police were sent to the vendor at the Green Brier Inn, at 1611 Main St., at 2:09 a.m. Sunday. No shots were fired, and no one was injured.

Police determined a man causing a disturbance was asked to leave by security. He left, grabbed a gun from a vehicle in the parking lot and returned to the vendor but could not get in. He drove away before police arrived.

Officers stopped a vehicle on the 700 block of College Avenue at about 8:25 a.m. and arrested a man. Investigators obtained a search warrant and seized a modified 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition from a home that afternoon.

A 33-year-old Winnipeg man is facing five firearms charges and was detained in custody.

Vacant Alfred Avenue home burns once again

A vacant house on Alfred Avenue caught fire late Sunday night for the third time in four months.

Crews were sent to the one-and-a-half-storey house on the 400 block of Alfred shortly before midnight and declared the fire extinguished at 1:11 a.m. Monday.

The house sustained fire, smoke and water damage. It was damaged by earlier fires on Nov. 16 and July 4.

Earlier Sunday, at 12:05 p.m., crews were sent to a vacant, single-storey commercial building on the 200 block of Logan Avenue. They declared the fire under control at 1:35 p.m.

Crews were sent to a garage fire on the 500 block of Redwood Avenue at 7:28 a.m. Sunday and found flames had spread to an adjacent house. Crews declared the fire under control at 7:46 a.m.
