RCMP investigate Thompson stabbing

A man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was stabbed behind a business in Thompson earlier this month.

RCMP officers were patrolling near Thompson Drive shortly after 11:15 p.m. on Aug. 2 when multiple people flagged them down and told them about the incident. Police gave the man first aid while waiting for emergency crews to arrive.

The man, 26, was taken to hospital with serious injuries but has since been upgraded to stable condition.

On Tuesday, RCMP asked for the public’s help in identifying two men and a woman who might have information about the stabbing.

Police asked anyone with information about the case to contact Thompson RCMP at 204-843-2691, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online.

Jet to fly over Blue Bombers game

A fighter jet will fly over the Blue Bombers game as part of the team’s annual Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation night Thursday.

A CF-18 Hornet from 409 Squadron in Cold Lake, Alta., will fly by between about 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. 

The Bombers face the Ottawa Redblacks that night.

Comrie to tee it up in Manitoba Open

Winnipeg Jets goalie Eric Comrie has been granted a sponsor exemption for the 2025 Manitoba Open.

Comrie will tee it up in the field of 156 players in the PGA Tour Americas event to be held at Breezy Bend Golf and County Club next week.

He joins a list of Jets to participate that includes Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor, Morgan Barron and Dylan Samberg.

The Monday qualifer, which offers eight available spots, will be held at Elmhurst next week.

The four-round tournament begins next Thursday and wraps up Sunday afternoon.

Man wanted for murder now in custody

12:13 PM

A man wanted for a slaying in Keeseekoowenin Ojibway First Nation last week turned himself in Monday.

Frank La Forge, a 52-year-old Keeseekoowenin resident, was wanted for first-degree murder and attempted murder. RCMP asked for the public’s help in finding him Aug. 6.

A 33-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man were shot at a home early on July 28. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. RCMP said at the time that the incident was “targeted.”

Police believe Frank La Forge, 52, is in the Yellowhead area of Manitoba.
