The writers and performers of this Edmonton company ruefully notice that the most sexually successful guys are the most callous.

So a trio of freshly dumped, socially inept gamers begin a campaign to turn themselves into heartless Lotharios, with results that are unexpectedly successful yet unsatisfying.

The trio of actors is likable and convincingly non-studly, and the action flies along, with a couple of nicely done diversions in the form of a hip-hop performance and an amusing onstage video-game facsimile. A couple of dramatic moments seem misplaced, but do not undo the built-up comedic good will.

From the official Fringe Festival program:

It’s not easy being a bastard. But if these nice guys don’t want to finish last anymore they will need to become just that. Bastards.

The Art Of Being A Bastard features the energetic guys from Norse Force Five Productions and moves at breakneck speed through life, love and self-doubt covered by overconfidence, smothered in hair gel and stuffed in a dating service.
