Hey there, time traveller!

The Flin Flon Bombers are more than 800 kilometres from the friendly confines of the Whitney Forum but they are making themselves at home in Estevan, Sask., site of the Centennial Cup Junior A hockey national championship.
Approximately 200 Flin Flon fans have made the trek and are making themselves heard at Affinity Place, the 2,650-seat home of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Estevan Bruins.
“Our fans have been awesome,” said Bombers head coach Mike Reagan by phone Wednesday afternoon. “We scored the overtime winner (Saturday) night against Ottawa. I mean, it was loud. It was great. And then you know, yesterday, same thing.”
The Bombers, who lost a seven-game SJHL final with the Bruins earlier this month, earned a spot in the 10-team national tournament by virtue of their runner-up league finish.
Flin Flon finished the four-game round-robin with one regulation win, two overtime wins and a loss for seven points, good for third in Group B, behind the first-place Dauphin Kings of the MJHL and second-place Summerside Western Capitals of the Maritime Hockey League.
The Bombers will play the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Pickering Panthers in one quarter-final Friday while Summerside, with Morden products Trent Crane and Will Irvine in the lineup, will face Collège Français de Longueuil in another quarter-final.
The winners advance to Saturday’s semifinal round where the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Brooks Outlaws, winners of Group A, and Dauphin have already secured berths.
The Kings beat the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Soo Thunderbirds 6-1 Wednesday to claim top spot in Group B with three wins and a shootout loss.
Brayden Dube scored three times for Dauphin while Klim Georgiev, Nick Braun and Colby Jaquet added singles.
“Our first game we looked rusty against Soo but as the game went on we got better (and beat the Thunderbirds 6-1),” said Flin Flon’s Reagan.
“Our game against Ottawa (Junior Senators) was just a gutsy effort and we were able to score in overtime (in a 3-2 win). And then against Summerside (Capitals) I thought that we look tired — we just didn’t have our legs under us (in a 4-1 loss). And then (Tuesday), I wouldn’t say our best game (beating the Dauphin Kings 2-1 in a shootout) but it was probably our most complete effort.”
Reagan said his best players have come through when they were needed most.
“Zak Smith, Jaeden Mercier and Drew Kuzma have been our best forward line and then Xavier Lapointe has probably been our best defenceman and then (goaltender) Cal Schell been spectacular again,” said Reagan. “The nice thing is our best players have been our our best players here.”
