GREEN BAY, Wis. — Despite not making a single throw in practice this week, quarterback Aaron Rodgers is prepared to start for the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at Seattle.

Coach Mike McCarthy said the team made a medical decision to keep Rodgers, who has a sprained right shoulder, from throwing in practice Friday.

“Dr. (Pat) McKenzie in his evaluation this morning felt it was best for Aaron not to throw today. That’s why his practice reps were limited,” McCarthy said. “He’ll be ready to go Sunday.”

The Packers listed Rodgers as probable on their injury report.

Rodgers made only a few throws in practice last week after suffering the injury Sept. 28 at Tampa Bay.

The first-year starter was cleared to play last Sunday a few hours before the Packers’ home game against Atlanta and had one of his top performances this season. Rodgers completed 25 of 37 passes for 313 yards and three touchdowns with one interception in Green Bay’s 27-24 loss.

“I feel like I’m going to be able to be good for Sunday,” Rodgers said Friday.

Palmer won’t start

CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis says quarterback Carson Palmer will not start Sunday’s game against the New York Jets because of a sore right elbow but that he could play.

Backup Ryan Fitzpatrick will get his second start of the season for the Bengals. He started against the Cleveland Browns two weeks ago, the week after Palmer injured his elbow in a loss to the New York Giants and threw three interceptions and lost a fumble while being sacked.

Palmer started last week at Dallas and threw two touchdowns and one interception. He said later that the elbow felt good but that he wasn’t always confident he could make the necessary throw.

Lewis said Friday that he’ll decide Sunday whether Palmer or his younger brother, Jordan, will back up Fitzpatrick. Against Cleveland, Jordan was designated the team’s second quarterback.

Bolts’ Chambers doubtful

SAN DIEGO — Chargers wide receiver Chris Chambers was listed as doubtful because of a sprained left ankle and may miss Sunday night’s game against the New England Patriots.

Chambers sprained his ankle during last Sunday’s loss to the Miami Dolphins and didn’t practice this week. He was unsure if he would test the ankle during warmups on Sunday.

However, he wasn’t ready to say he’d miss the game.

“Actually, I’m still just taking it one day at a time,” Chambers said. “I feel better than I did yesterday.”

Coach Norv Turner said Chambers’ availability would be a game-time decision.

Outside linebacker Jyles Tucker also was listed as doubtful and said he would test his injured hamstring before Sunday’s game.

“That’s the plan right now, to try to go out there and see what we can do,” Tucker said. “If I can go, then I’ll go. If not, I’ll sit down one more week and be ready for Buffalo.”

Cowboys’ Pacman will play

IRVING, Texas — The NFL’s review of Adam (Pacman) Jones’ scuffle with his bodyguard won’t be completed until next week.

The Dallas Cowboys had already said they won’t discipline Jones, so that means the cornerback will play Sunday at Arizona.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in an e-mail Friday that the league’s review won’t be completed until next week. He didn’t provide a specific time.

It is unclear if the league will take any punitive action against Jones, who only six weeks ago was fully reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell from a 17-month suspension, including the entire 2007 season, that followed a series of off-field problems.

Jones got into a scuffle at an upscale downtown Dallas hotel late Tuesday night with one of members of a security detail provided by the team to be with the cornerback at all times.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the player broke no team rules, but said he was disappointed about the incident.

Adam Jones has started all five games for the Cowboys, and likely will start Sunday.

The Cowboys confirmed Friday that cornerback Terence Newman (abdominal strain) will miss his second straight game.

Henry going to court

BILLINGS, Mont. — Former Denver Broncos running back Travis Henry is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court Oct. 30 on cocaine trafficking charges.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Carolyn Ostby initially set Henry’s arraignment for Oct. 14, but on Friday delayed it by two weeks at the request of lawyers. Henry is expected to enter a plea to a three-count indictment charging him with conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine in the Billings area from March 2006 until September.
