Valour, Ottawa play to 1-1 draw

Valour FC tied Atlético Ottawa 1-1 on Wednesday night at TD Place Stadium in Ottawa.

With the draw, Winnipeg’s professional soccer club is now 5-5-4 on the year and remain in fifth place in the Canadian Premier League standings. Only the top four teams qualify for the playoffs. Forge FC currently sit in fourth place with three more points than Valour despite playing one less game.

Ottawa’s in second with a 7-5-3 record.

Valour opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a penalty kick goal from midfielder Moses Dyer. The New Zealander leads Valour with six goals on the year.

Five minutes later, Ottawa would score in the exact same fashion off the foot of Vladimir Moragrega.

Valour won the possession battle at 53.3 per cent and had four shots on net compared to Ottawa’s three.

The match was originally scheduled for Sunday but was postponed as Atlético had a COVID outbreak.

Valour plays again Saturday afternoon at Hamilton’s Tim Hortons Field against Forge. Valour beat Forge 1-0 on the road on June 29 in their last meeting.
