“ö Carly Paracholski of the Sisler High School track team was invited to compete in the High School Girls Feature Race on Sunday in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the 85th annual Howard Wood Dakota Relays.

Paracholski was the only Canadian selected among the eight athletes invited to run in the event, a 200-metre race. She placed third with a time of 25.12 seconds.

“ö Gabrielle May of Panthers Gymnastics Club won three gold medals and a silver medal to lead Manitoba’s competitors at the 2009 Western Canadian Gymnastics Championships and Trampoline and Tumbling Western Canada Cup.

“ö Kristy Beettam of J.H. Bruns and Blair Kaminsky of Vincent Massey (Winnipeg) earned the female and male singles titles at the 2009 Provincial High School Badminton Championship on Saturday at Maples Collegiate. About 256 athletes from 16 provincial zones participated in five categories.

In doubles, Caitlin Dansen and Kristin Bailey of Miles Macdonell won the female title, Curtis Granger and Lucas Johnson of Warren Collegiate won the male championship and the mixed crown was won by Jessica Robert and Dominic Guzman of College Louis Riel.

“ö Winnipeg diver Kevin Geyson of Pan Am Diving Club placed 14th overall in the men’s open platform preliminary round but didn’t qualify for the semifinals at the Canada Cup FINA Grand Prix Diving event in Montreal on Sunday. Cam McLean of Winnipeg, now diving out of Calgary, placed 21st overall in the men’s three-metre springboard preliminary round and did not advance to the semifinals.

“ö The 2009 Canadian National 4-Wall Handball Tournament is set for May 13-16 at University of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre (open, junior and women’s events) and the University of Manitoba Frank Kennedy Building (masters events).
