The sticks and puck associated with one of the biggest goals in University of Manitoba hockey history are heading to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

Bisons sports information officer Chris Zuk confirmed Thursday that he has been contacted by Craig Campbell, manager of the Hall of Fame’s resource centre and archives about contributing four items, including the stick used by Bisons forward Jordyn Zacharias to score the winning goal in Sunday’s 1-0 quadruple overtime win over the Alberta Pandas in Game 3 of the Canada West semifinal.

The Hall of Fame has also requested Venla Hovi’s stick (she assisted on the goal), Lauren Taraschuk’s goalie stick and the puck used to score the winner.

“They’re doing a U Sports display at the Hall of Fame and they just thought this would fit into what they’re doing out there,” said Zuk, who is still trying to track down the puck. “We’ll see what we can get to them after this weekend. You don’t get the Hockey Hall of Fame calling you every day.”

The No. 1-ranked Bisons open a best-of-three conference final against the No. 8 Saskatchewan Huskies Friday at 7 p.m. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. Game 3, if necessary, would be played Sunday at 5 p.m. All games are at Wayne Fleming Arena.
