The Winnipeg Goldeyes started the scoring but the Sioux Falls Canaries responded with runs in each of the first six innings en route to blasting the Fish 12-4 in South Dakota on Wednesday.
Brock Bond led the Fish at the plate, going 3-for-4 and scoring the game’s first run on a hit by Casey Haerther. Reggie Abercrombie hit a solo home run in the fourth to increase his team-leading total to 14 dingers on the season.
Matt Jackson started on the mound for Winnipeg and was tagged with the loss after giving up four runs.
The Goldeyes (43-26) and Canaries will play game two of their four-game series at Sioux Falls Stadium Thursday at 7 p.m.
