The Winnipeg Goldeyes can hit the road happy after their most recent performance at Shaw Park.
The Fish completed a three-game sweep of the Lincoln Saltdogs on Thursday afternoon, winning 7-2 on home turf.
Kyle Martin and Willy Garcia were playmakers for the team, each driving in three runs during Thursday’s game. Some clutch plays were required to secure the afternoon’s victory. Six of Winnipeg’s seven runs came with two outs on the board.
The Goldeyes were strong offensively the whole series. Over the three-game homestand, the Fish bashed 49 hits and drove in 33 runs.
Rookie catcher Ray Pastrana picked up his first career hit in the bottom of the fourth of Thursday’s game.
One key player will be missing from the team when it hits the road this week. Leadoff hitter Tyler Hill had his contract purchased by the Kansas City Royals on Thursday. In 40 games since joining the Goldeyes in late June, Hill batted .375 with 32 runs, 14 doubles, four home runs and 28 RBIs. He also sprinted for 16 stolen bases. During the Saltdogs series, Hill drove in a career-high five RBIs in one game.
The Fish will have to fill Hill’s spot in the lineup, and fast. The next six series are all against division opponents, making wins more critical than ever.
The Goldeyes’ first game of their seven-game road trip begins today in Franklin, Wis. They’ll take on the Milwaukee Milkmen in a four-game set at Routine Field, including a doubleheader this afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
