MANITOBA’S Lois Fowler extended her record to 9-1 with a narrow 5-4 victory over Prince Edward Island’s Shirley Berry Wednesday at the Canadian Senior Curling Championships Wednesday in Summerside, P.E.I.

Fowler utilized the hammer to score the winning point on the 10th end. On the early draw, Fowler doubled Alberta’s Peggy Harper 6-3 thanks to a steal of one on the ninth end and another two on 10. Nova Scotia’s Colleen Pinkney sits atop the women’s standings with a perfect 9-0 record. British Columbia’s Kathy Smiley was at 8-2.

On the men’s side New Brunswick’s Russ Howard is 8-0 through 17 draws.

Howard, who was hoping to extend his record to 9-0 against Saskatchewan’s Eugene Hritzuk on the Wednesday night draw, outscored Quebec’s Mike Carson 7-4 on Wednesday afternoon. Chasing Howard in the men’s standings heading into the Wednesday night draw were Newfoundland & Labrador’s Bill Jenkins, Prince Edward Island’s Mel Bernard and Ontario’s Bruce Delaney, all at 6-2; Manitoba’s Brent Strachan was at 5-5.
