SWIFT CURRENT – Team Canada’s Jennifer Jones will face Scotland in Saturday night’s semifinal of the Worlds Women’s Curling championship, with the winner to meet Germany in Sunday’s final.
Scotland’s Eve Muirhead, the 19-year-old skip from Perth, advanced to the semifinal (6 p.m./TSN) by thrashing Sweden’s Cecilia Ostlund 8-3 in the Page 3-4 game this afternoon.
Muirhead shot 95 percent in upending the Swedes in front of a sellout crowd of 2,487 at the Credit Union iplex.
Jones St. Vital foursome – which includes third Cathy Overton-Clapham, second Jill Officer and lead Dawn Askin, defeated Muirhead 8-5 in the round-robin finale on Thursday night to finish atop the standings at 10-1.
However, Jones then lost 6-3 to Germany’s Andrea Schopp in Friday night’s Page 1-2 game. The Scots, who finished the round-robin at 8-3, subsequently trumped the U.S. 8-3 in a tie-breaker on Friday before dispatching the Swedes to reach the semifinal.
