Two of Canada’s best-known curlers are joining forces.
Edmonton’s Randy Ferbey, a four-time world champion, will announce today he is forming a rink with Olympic gold medallist Brad Gushue of St. John’s, N.L. Ferbey confirmed the plan Wednesday but did not want to give out many details.
"I’d like to keep a little bit of it under wraps," he said in a telephone interview while travelling to St. John’s. Gushue, 29, also preferred to wait until the official announcement. Ferbey, 50, is a six-time Canadian champion. Since 1999 he has acted as skip on his rink of Marcel Rocque, Scott Pfeifer and Dave Nedohin.
Nedohin has usually thrown the final stones. Gushue and his rink of Russ Howard, Mark Nichols, Jamie Korab and Mike Adams won the gold medal at the 2006 Turin Olympics. It’s expected Ferbey will call the shots on the new rink while Gushue will throw the final stones. Nichols will play second and Ryan Fry will be lead.
