No news not good news: Glenn still a Bomber

IT’S all quiet, perhaps too quiet, on the Kevin Glenn front.  But that won’t stop the rumour mill from churning. It’s expected trade discussions between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Hamilton Tiger-Cats will heat up through this weekend and into next week, especially now that some of the management teams from both CFL teams have returned from scouting the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Game in Texas.  It’s not certain what Glenn would fetch in a deal, but Bombers head coach Mike Kelly made no secret of his desire to augment the club’s Canadian talent base either through current CFLers or draft picks.  Winnipeg won’t pick until the third round in this spring’s Canadian draft, having sent their firstrounder to the Ticats for Zeke Moreno and their second-rounder to Edmonton in the Stefan Lefors trade.  “That’s part of the process we’re going through right now,” said Kelly. “We’re looking at our football club and seeing where we have a surplus and guys signed... can we maybe move a player or two for some of those draft picks?  I’d like to be able to recoup a couple of those draft picks.  I’ve said all along that in our league you have to have a quarterback and you have to be strong in your Canadian content. I believe we are stronger at the quarterback spot — and this is in no way a disparagement of Kevin Glenn — but we wanted to make a change there and we thought that was an important move for us.”

The Ticats do have a number of Canadian O-linemen that may be of interest to the Bombers, especially with four of their own — Alex Gauthier, Dominic Picard, Kyle Koch and Matt O’Meara now two weeks from free agency.

Hamilton’s homegrown hogs include Cedric Gagne-Marcoux (whom some say the Bombers covet), George Hudson, Jordan Rempel, Peter Dyakowski, J.P. Bekasiak and Marwan Hage.
