Hey there, time traveller!

One man’s totally subjective rankings of the eight CFL teams to date this season (last week’s rank in parenthesis):

1. (1) MONTREAL ALOUETTES (14-3): So much for their ‘slump.’ That mauling of the Bombers was impressive.

2. (3) CALGARY STAMPEDERS (10-6-1): Still feel like we haven’t seen their best.

3. (2) SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS (9-7-1): Whatever that was in Hamilton — they’re calling it the ‘flu’ — it was ugly.

4. (4) B.C. LIONS (8-9): Have dropped two straight heartbreakers.

5. (6) HAMILTON TIGER-CATS (8-9): Cruising now with two straight ‘W’s.

6. (5) WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (7-10): Very, very ugly in Montreal. But playing for second this week.

7. (5) EDMONTON ESKIMOS (8-9): Just too hard to get excited about a victory over Toronto.

8. (8) TORONTO ARGONAUTS (3-14): Let’s be perfectly clear: they are bloody awful.

JUICY NUMBER — 7

Years since the Tiger-Cats last played host to a playoff game. A Hamilton win this weekend eliminates the Bombers and means playoff football would be played at Ivor Wynne for the first time since the 2001 East Semifinal.

FYI

The CFL announced its players of the week on Tuesday and the list includes three Ticats: running back DeAndra’ Cobb (offence), linebacker Otis Floyd (defence), and receiver Dave Stala (Canadian). Alouette return man Larry Taylor was the top special-teams player… Great idea by the Eskimos to auction off the player lockers before they move into new digs next year as part of a makeover at Commonwealth Stadium. Proceeds will go to a local charity… The Lions are hoping to have RB Martel Mallett and safety Barron Miles back for Friday’s critical contest with the Eskimos… Tough first year for Argo head coach Bart Andrus, who is vowing change for next year — if he’s back. "We are going to be obviously revamping again and changing personnel," Andrus told the Toronto Star. "Eventually, I’m going to get in the personnel I want." Andrus’s contract takes him through next season with an option for 2011.

SAY WHAT?!

"If I was 21 and I was like, ‘This is how I want my career to end,’ everything would have been perfect if someone said, ‘OK, you’ll win two Grey Cups, you’ll win the World Bowl in NFL Europe — instead of losing the Super Bowl you’ll win the Super Bowl — and you’ll coach lingerie football,’ I could have died right then and been happy." — Former B.C./Ottawa/Saskatchewan receiver Yo Murphy, now the head coach of the Tampa Breeze of the Lingerie Football League.
