YOU SHOULD
KNOW…
TRADE ME, TRADE ME RIGHT FREAKING NOW
SO, many in Bomber nation have come to the conclusion that the team should trade Derick Armstrong and get a similar receiver for their troubles. Here are some factors involved in trading Armstrong.
“ö Every GM in the league knows what Armstrong did last week and most are likely nervous about taking on Winnipeg’s baggage.
“ö Armstrong, despite posting back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, has a bad knee that reportedly requires an injection of pain reliever prior to most games.
“ö Armstrong makes somewhere north of $100,000 but a good portion of that was paid up front. So he’s cheap to another team and easy to fit under the salary cap.
“ö Trades are best made from a position of strength. When the entire league knows you’re trying to get rid of a player, the offers get pretty skimpy.
“ö One CFL source said any trade involving Armstrong at this point would likely be for a conditional draft pick.
THE REPLACEMENTS
With Armstrong not at practice on Sunday, the Bombers worked out import wideout Kyle Smith and Winnipeg Rifles receiver Jeremy Botelho. Smith attended camp and injured his hamstring.
The son of San Diego Chargers general manager A.J. Smith, the receiver played his college football at Youngstown State and spent parts of the 2008 season with the Georgia Force and Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League.
In 2007, he attended training camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but was waived in late August. Smith had 101 career receptions in college for 1,536 yards and is smallish at 6-feet, 168 pounds.
