Alexis Serna’s big toe has caught the attention of the Canadian Football League.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers placekicker was named today as the Special Teams Player of the Week for his work in last Saturday’s 29-24 victory over the Toronto Argonauts.

Serna hit on four of his five field-goal attempts in the Bomber victory, including kicks from 53, 32, 13 and 41 yards. The second-year Bomber has connected on 24 of his 28 attempts this season (85.7 per cent).

Teammate Jovon Johnson, the team’s ace cornerback and kick returner, was a runner-up for the special-teams honour while safety Ian Logan was a runner-up for the Canadian player of the week.

Montreal running back Avon Cobourne was the offensive star for his 193 yards rushing and two TDs in a win over Hamilton; while Edmonton Eskimo defensive back T.J. Hill was the top defensive player and Saskatchewan slotback Andy Fantuz was named the top Canadian.
