Miami Dolphins regional scout Matt Winston was in attendance on Tuesday. The Fish have been busy north of the border, signing Cam Wake of B.C. last year and Rolly Lumbala and Ryan Grice Mullen of the Lions and Calgary’s Dimitri Tsoumpas this year.

FIRST PEEK NEARING: Fans will get their initial look at the 2010 squad on Sunday against the Alouettes, a game in which head coach Paul LaPolice and his staff plan to dress all players but hold some out of action to evaluate others. He also said the league will give teams more flexibility by not implementing the ratio during the contest, meaning coaches don’t have to designate seven Canadian starters.

And the final dress rehearsal is on the tube as Shaw-TV will televise the second pre-season tilt live from Hamilton on June 20 from Ivor Wynne Stadium.

MR. ECLIPSE STILL DOMINATING: Kelly Butler, the massive O-lineman from Purdue who had 21 starts with Detroit and Cleveland we told you about last week, is still eating up people in virtually every drill. Asked if he had been beaten yet in a one-on-one drill, LaPolice said: "Some people have tried to run by him. I think he got beat once on Day 1, but he’s a big man with long arms. I love his work ethic. He competes and works hard and he’s diligent and he cares about it. You know what, he said, ‘This is my second chance. I’ve been in it before and I’m just enjoying every day playing football.’

"Let’s not be early evaluators. Until you get against teams’ best rush ends and all that stuff… it’s only the second day of camp, but he’s got talent no doubt."

QUOTABLE: Here’s Bomber QB Buck Pierce when asked if he was looking forward to this weekend’s first pre-season game: "I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s practice. I’m looking forward to the next day. This is great. I don’t think I’ve had this much fun playing football since I was back in college.

This is good. Great group of guys. Great, enthusiastic young coaching staff and as a player to be rejuvenated in a new system and a new organization has been outstanding."

AROUND THE CFL: It’s official and the word isn’t good for former Bomber DE Gavin Walls — he has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee and will be out for a long spell…

The Alouettes are apparently trying to trade former University of Manitoba linebacker/long-snapper Cory Huclack. He returned to Montreal from the team’s training camp site at Bishop’s University and if Montreal can’t find a willing trade partner, he could be released… Saskatchewan released former Kansas star QB Todd Reesing on Tuesday. Former Bomber Ryan Dinwiddie is pushing to be Darian DurantSSRqs backup.
