WITH all the cuts administered Wednesday, the CFL active-roster deadline was a non-event in Bomberland. The seven-man practice roster still awaits an announcement today, so here’s a look at a few who made the team:
WELCOME TO WINNIPEG
QB Buck Pierce: The Bombers make a significant upgrade at the most important spot on the field.
QB Steven Jyles: Looks to be the best Bombers backup pivot since Kevin Glenn caddied for Khari Jones.
WR Terence Jeffers-Harris: The import impressed in camp with his ability to make some tough catches in traffic.
WR Cory Watson: The non-import needs to be sharper, but all the tools are there.
LB Marcellus Bowman: The former Boston College safety was moved up closer to the line and made an immediate impact.
OL Kelly Butler: Listed at 6-foot-8, 350 pounds, the import giant will anchor the O-line at right tackle.
OL Andre Douglas: Another import for the offensive line, the 23-year-old was viewed as a long shot to make the club at the start of camp.
DB: LaVar Glover: The 31-year-old brings some needed experience to a secondary that is still unsettled.
STARTING ON THE SIDELINES:
LT Glenn January (pectoral muscle) and LS Chris Cvetkovic (knee) have been placed on the nine-game injured list. Those starting the season on the one-game injured list include RG Ryan Donnelly, WR Jabari Arthur and DB Clint Kent. Those three are ineligible for the first game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (July 2, Canad Inns Stadium). OL Carlton Medder was also moved to the disabled list.
